Thank you for visiting adoptcharlotte.org. Our organization was created in 2001 to help educate, enlighten and inform the general public on the benefits of spay, neuter and adoption as a way to fight our unusually high euthanasia rate. You see, on average we euthanize sixty-five percent of all animals that end up at the shelter each year. That comes out to well more than 10,000 animals euthanized each year here. Why? Because we (the general public) don't know any better.
In 2005-2007, our public service campaign was augmented by a 20K media grant from the Foundation for the Carolinas, Patterson Family Fund which allowed us to procure outdoor media that helped lower our euthanasia rate while increasing adoptions. Unfortunately, the solidarity between adoptcharlotte and the two programs which benefit most from our campaign was fraught with political snags, resulting in the temporary suspension of grant funding. This is why our site is currently limited in its resourcefulness until we secure our official 501c3 status, which we hope to obtain in 2008.
In the meantime, we continue to encourage you to take advantage of the various opportunities that exist at both the Humane Society of Charlotte and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department's Animal Care and Control bureau. From discounted rates on spay and neuter services, to animal adoption and education - we're lucky to have so many people here who genuinely care about the health and welfare of our pets.
